Participant Eligibility Criteria

Participant Eligibility and Recruitment: Type3Life is an organization specifically designed to help men gain community and confidence through challenge and adventure. Core to this mission, only men in the designated age range are eligible to participate in Type3Life trips. Some activities may have specific physical requirements to meet for participants to be eligible.

Application Process: At the time of application, participants will sign up for their trip online and pay a 50% deposit; payment in full at the time of sign up is encouraged and will result in a 5% discount on the total trip cost.

After signup and payment, each participant will receive a welcome packet to the email address provided during signup. The welcome packet includes trip details, pre-trip preparations and communications, and links to additional forms that each participant is required to complete before their spot on the trip is officially secured. It is critical that these forms are filled out and signed before or by the time of final payment or 50 days prior to your trips start date (which ever is earlier): Participant Information Form

Participant Screening: Once Type3Life has received the participant’s mandatory forms, a Type3Life Staff will review participant paperwork and confirm their position in the trip. A screening call may be conducted by a Type3Life staff member with the participant to seek additional information on an as-needed basis. A group preparation call will take place between 10 days out from departure with all trip participants and Trip Leaders.

Drugs and Alcohol Policy: The use of alcohol, drugs, and non-prescription medications is prohibited on all Type3Life trips. These substances could negatively impact individual and team performance on the trip and can create significant safety and health risks for all team members. Discovery of the possession or use of alcohol or non-prescription medication in any instance is cause for immediate dismissal from the trip and return home at the participant’s expense.

Gear Policy: Type3Life trips are planned around intense outdoor adventure activities that require a significant amount of well-maintained equipment. Type3Life, in conjunction with our outfitter partners, ensures that each participant is equipped with all activity-specific equipment for their trip. There are still personal gear requirements that must be fulfilled by the participant at their own expense. Participants will be provided a trip-specific personal gear list. Personal gear consists of base layers, outer layers, sunglasses, and other items that contribute to a more fulfilling and enjoyable backcountry experience. Participants can rent select gear from Type3Life prior to any trip as outlined in the Type3Life Gear Rental document.

It is expected that participants arrive with the appropriate gear needed for any excursion outlined in the trip information documents, as to not put themselves or the group in danger by being underprepared.

Cancellation Policy

Introduction: Please review this page thoroughly before making any further financial commitment. The information that follows is important as you are about to make a significant investment of money and time. We recommend you review these financial commitment policies and set accurate expectations. A Type3Life Adventure demands considerable effort both before, during and after the trip and requires all participants to be proactive, responsible, and safe.

Similarly, third party payers should be made aware of all financial obligations, fees, or penalties.
Type3Life payment terms and conditions are based on our investment in planning, staffing, and trip delivery. These expenses are not recoverable; therefore, cancelation penalties apply, see cancelation policies section below.

Type3Life cannot issue refunds except as outlined in this document. It’s important that you consider protecting your financial investment as recommended.

Payment: Type3Life requires payment in full submitted at time of application. Full payment includes a *$150 non-refundable processing fee.

The *$150 processing fee is refundable only under the following conditions:

    • Type3Life determined that you were not a suitable fit for the trip you signed up for through the Type3Life application and vetting process. (Other trip options will be recommended)
    • Type3Life cancels your trip due to; low fill rate, COVID-19, natural disaster, outfitter need.

Cancelation and Trip Transfer Policy: Trip cost minus the *$150 processing fee is refundable if you cancel your enrollment 90 days or more prior to your trip’s start date.

If you cancel 89 days or less prior to your trip start date, the cancelation penalties listed below will apply.

For cancelations:

    • 89 to 50 days prior to the trip start date, Type3Life will refund 50% of of your payment.
    • 49 days or less from the trip start date, Type3Life will retain all payments.
    • In the event you are not cleared to participate in writing by a certified physician, Type3Life will retain the $150 non-refundable processing fee. The remaining deposit amount is refundable ONLY if the screening process has been completed (all required forms received, interviews completed, due dates met) and you responded with full disclosure while completing our health history questionnaire at time of enrollment.

If you transfer:

    • 89 to 50 days prior to the trip start date, 75% of any fully paid costs transfers to a new trip (25% is forfeited). A $250 transfer fee will apply to subsequent transfers.
    • 49 days or less from the trip start date, no payments are transferable.

Type3Life is not responsible for other expenses, including travel, lodging and gear costs not explicitly listed as part of the trip in the detailed trip description.

Protect Your Financial Investment: Protect your financial investment with Type3Life. If you elect not to purchase one of these plans, all Type3Life Cancellation Policies will apply.

    • Third Party Trip Insurance
      • Consider third party trip insurance to protect your financial investment of trip costs, airfare and/or emergency evacuation. Trip insurance options are widely available.
      • There are many options for third party insurers. Here is a great review of over 20 providers you can choose from:

(*Type3Life does not represent or endorse any third party trip insurance options.)

Past Due: If your payment is not received by the due date noted in your registration email and participant portal, this may be considered a cancelation due to inactive status and you will lose your position on the trip as well as any deposit paid. To avoid cancelation due to an inactive status, contact Type3Life to discuss a possible extension.

Trip Costs: Each Type3Life trip is designed differently with different itineraries, number of Trip Leaders and guides, participant group sizes, activities, gear, food, and transportation needs. Please see your detailed trip description for what your trip costs include or don’t. Not included in trip costs are personal expenses such as clothing, insurance (health and trip), airfare and baggage fees.

Waitlist: A 25% deposit is required for a waitlist application. This deposit includes a:

    • $150 application fee (non-refundable)
    • The remainder of the deposit is refundable only if you:
      • Cancel your waitlist application before a position becomes available. OR,
      • If the participant does not choose an open position on another Type3Life trip within one year of initial trip date.

Exception: Type3Life will refund your full waitlist deposit if Type3Life cancels your trip and you are unable to transfer to another trip within the same calendar year.

If a position becomes available, the waitlist applicant will be applied to the open position and our standard Cancelation Policy will be followed.

If you no longer wish to be waitlisted we strongly encourage you to get in touch with Type3Life immediately to cancel your waitlist application.

Waitlist applicants are encouraged to complete all required admissions documents while awaiting an open position as we select waitlist applicants based on responsiveness to deadlines and level of commitment to participate. Positions may become available up to two weeks prior to the trip start date. We recommend applying to a trip with open positions instead of a trip that is accepting waitlist applications.

Early Departures or No Shows: Our intent is to support participants so they have the opportunity to successfully complete their chosen trip. However, medical issues, homesickness, voluntary withdrawal, low motivation, or expulsion may prevent a participant from completing a trip. Should a participant leave a trip early, participants will need to arrange travel and added expenses will be their responsibility. Type3Life will assist with medical evacuations, but for any other reason for withdrawal the participant will be responsible for their own travel arrangements.

No matter the reason for early departures or no shows at trip start, there will be no refund or credit of costs.

Low Enrollment Trip Cancelation: In cases of low enrollment, Type3Life may cancel a trip and offer you the opportunity to transfer to another trip. Type3Life will advise applicants of their trip cancelation no later than two weeks prior to a domestic trip start date or 30 days prior to an international trip start date. Should Type3Life need to cancel a trip, all payments are refundable or transferable to another trip. Type3Life is not responsible for any other expenses including travel, insurance, lodging or clothing/gear.

Trip Confirmation: In order for a trip to be confirmed, we must achieve a minimum number of “firm” enrollments (typically 6). We define “firm” as applicants who are fully paid and have been cleared to participate. Once we achieve these requirements, your participant services representative will notify participants by email, phone, or both.

Type3Life works diligently to confirm trips as early as possible. However, some trips may enroll slowly which may delay this process.

COVID-19 Policy

COVID-19 HEALTH & SAFETY PRACTICES: Type3Life’s mission is to inspire men to live confidently by creating a community bonded through challenge and adversity. To accomplish this objective, we need to be together; to get out into the world and tackle the tough stuff so that we can expand our personal limitations as a team. As with every aspect of our lives, Covid-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV- 2, has made this harder. That’s ok, because we like to overcome challenges.

The first challenge on your Type3Adventure starts before you get on the plane, jump in the kayak or step foot into the wilderness. This challenge is taking the necessary precautions to mitigate risks associated with Covid-19. This not only impacts your experience with Type3Life, but that of our entire community.

Type3Life is actively monitoring Covid-19 and the guidance issued from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other health authorities. The wellbeing, health, and safety of our participants and trip leaders is top priority, and Type3Life will continue to maintain recommended mitigation controls and procedures in alignment with current data and science. The risk of contracting Covid-19 prior to or while participating in an Type3Life trip can be reduced but not eliminated. This Policy defines health and safety practices for participants prior to arrival and while on trip.

For those who are at higher risk for severe illness from Covid-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), please carefully consider, in conjunction with your healthcare provider, whether to attend a Type3Life trip at this time. Contact your Admissions Officer or Trip Advisor to learn more.

All Type3Life Trips: Type3Life operating in environments with risk is essential to achieving our core mission. However, Type3Life also practices thoughtful and effective risk management. Contracting Covid-19, the disease caused by coronavirus, is a new risk for everyone and (like other risks) cannot be eliminated.

Potential Covid-related risks while on a Type3Life trip:

    • At times, participants will be in close physical proximity to one another, guides, and trip leaders.
    • There is the potential of illnesses on a trip. Communicable and other infectious diseases from insects, animals, or people such as diarrhea, flu-like or respiratory illness, and other debilitating or life-threatening conditions including Covid-19 and other diseases caused by coronaviruses may occur.
    • The remote locations of our trips are often away from medical facilities. Communication and transportation can be difficult and evacuations and medical care may be significantly delayed.
    • Decisions made by the trip leaders, guides, and participants will be based on a variety of perceptions and evaluations, which by their nature are imprecise and subject to errors in judgment.

Vaccination Requirements: At Type3Life, we recognize that there is a spectrum of data interpretation, opinions and emotions regarding Covid-19 vaccinations. As an apolitical, inclusive organization with the goal of positively impacting men across the world, we are singularly focused on applying our available resources to create and execute the best transformational adventure trips that we can. To this end, Type3Life requires participants on all Type3Life trips be fully vaccinated for Covid-19 prior to arriving at their trip starting location. After careful consideration, this presented us the best opportunity to serve our participants and create stability within our trip calendar.

Trip Changes: This is an evolving situation and our practices may change as we gain new information or as recommendations change. Type3Life will decide when and under what conditions any trips will operate using medical advice and our best judgment, and activities or locations of trips may be changed leading up to a trip’s departure.

Prior to your Trip Start: To minimize the risk of contracting Covid-19, participants must adhere to the following health practices prior to departure.

    • Practice physical distancing when outside your household
    • Wash or sanitize your hands frequently
    • Avoid crowded places, especially indoors
    • Avoid contact with people who are sick
    • Follow current recommended guidance and requirements from the CDC regarding vaccinated individuals
    • Monitor for Covid-19 symptoms
    • Avoid crowded indoor or outdoor spaces
    • Comply with CDC and local mask mandates
    • Carry and use sanitizing wipes to clean surfaces you come in contact with

During trip: Upon arriving at the or your trip start location, you may be required to take a Covid-19 test regardless of your vaccination status and be screened for symptoms. The following field practices are designed to keep you and others healthy:

    • Maintaining as much physical distance as possible, especially when masks cannot be worn
    • Following current local and CDC recommendations and mandates for masking
    • Symptoms and temperature checks
    • Possible distanced or individual sleeping arrangements
    • Enhanced hygiene practices, including: frequent hand washing or sanitizing, coughing and sneezing away from others, not sharing personal equipment like water bottles, and taking additional precautions when preparing and serving food

For these measures to be effective, we need commitment and diligence from our participants and staff.

If Covid-19 Symptoms Arise on Trip: Participants who arrive displaying or reporting flu-like symptoms will not be allowed to embark on the trip. Participants who become ill, or develop symptoms of Covid-19, on a trip will be isolated from the larger group and the trip will establish communication with outside medical advisors to determine next steps. Appropriate measures will be taken based on the circumstances and location of the trip. Trip leaders will seek medical advice and follow our Covid-19 illness guidelines, which may include evacuation from the trip.

If a Participant is evacuated, it is unlikely they will be able to rejoin their trip due to remoteness and logistics, though this may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Evacuees will need to stay in local lodging at their expense until they are able or allowed, per medical advice, to return home. They will also need to make their own travel arrangements to return home. Type3Life may be able to provide some assistance in finding lodging or arranging travel.

Covid-19 Cancellation Policies: Type3Life recognizes that Covid-19 has the ability (and tendency) to mess up all of our plans without notice. In light of this fact, Type3Life is temporarily honoring caveats to our Cancellation Policy for Covid-19 related cancellations:

    • If you need to cancel due to direct impacts of Covid-19 within 75 days of your trip start date, you can receive a 100% credit for a future trip or a 75% refund, up to the start date of the trip.
      • Direct impacts of Covid-19 may include: you or an immediate family member becoming infected with Covid-19, you have been identified as a close contact of a Covid-19 infected individual, or travel restrictions such as stay-in-place orders where you live or border closures prohibiting you from getting to your Type3Life trip start location. For Participants separated from a trip due to Covid-19 illness, they will receive a non-refundable 50% tuition credit.*
    • If you need to cancel your enrollment for any other reason, standard Type3Life cancellation policies apply.
    • If Type3Life suspends a trip in the field due to Covid-19 developments (ie. travel restrictions, local stay-in-place orders, etc.) a prorated credit towards a future trip will be provided.
    • If Type3Life cancels your upcoming trip due to Covid-19 related impacts or restrictions, we will provide 100% transfer, credit or refund (excluding $150 application fee or any personal travel expenses or reservations).
    • Type3Life recommends that all enrolled participants purchase travel insurance to protect their investment and guard against unforeseen circumstances. Type3Life will not reimburse travel or other related third-party costs due to any Covid-19 cancellations.

Type3Life consistently reviews our policies in light of the changing pandemic and reserves the right to update this policy at any time. Please contact our admission office with any questions.

COVID-19 Discolsure and Agreement

Type3Life, LLC is enthusiastic to have you on this upcoming trip. We want to ensure you are aware of how we’re responding to the coronavirus pandemic so you can make informed decisions. Though this pandemic is unprecedented, we want to do everything in our power to endure through these challenging times and do our part to inspire men to live confidently by creating a community bonded through challenge and adversity.

Our commitment to risk management guides our decisions and the health and wellbeing of our participants, and staff is our priority. Type3Life follows federal, state, and local public health guidance or regulations and consults with peer organizations and medical advisors as we continue to assess our policies and procedures to manage the risk of Covid-19 for Type3Life trips and communities. This is an evolving situation and our practices may change as guidance or recommendations change.

Type3Life will use health guidance, regulations, and best judgment to decide when and under what conditions any trips will operate. Although a last resort, activities or locations of trips may be changed; potentially at the last minute.

Type3Life trips, by definition, are difficult. The activities we chose for our trips are designed to push men to expand their physical and mental boundaries and this cannot be achieved in a risk free environment. We do, however, actively practice thoughtful risk management to reduce the probability and impact of risk incidents. Contracting Covid-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV- 2, is a risk for everyone and, like other risks, cannot be completely eliminated.

We would like to remind you that the Type3Life Participant Agreement that you signed includes pertinent statements about medical conditions and our ability to manage them. The following is a summary of those statements.

    • The medical information given to Type3Life is accurate and all pertinent medical conditions have been disclosed.
    • I understand that my admission to a Type3Life trip is not intended as a representation that Type3Life staff will be able to successfully manage a medical event or emergency related to a disclosed, or undisclosed, medical condition.
    • Type3Life reserves the right to refuse admission or remove a participant from a trip for any reason it deems is in the best interest of the participant or success of the trip. The Type3Life Participant Agreement also outlines risks including:
      • At times participants will be in close physical proximity to one another or instructors.
      • Illnesses may include, communicable and other infectious diseases from insects, animals, or people such as diarrhea, flu-like or respiratory illness, and other debilitating or life-threatening conditions including Covid-19 and other diseases caused by coronaviruses.
      • The remote locations of our trips may be many days from medical facilities. Communication and transportation are difficult and evacuations and medical care may be significantly delayed.
      • Decisions made by the trip leaders, guides, and participants will be based on a variety of perceptions and evaluations, which by their nature are imprecise and subject to errors in judgment. Misjudgments may pertain to, among other things, medical conditions.

Before Your Trip: Type3Life requires that you are fully vaccinated against Covid-19. Exemptions for medical reasons or firmly held religious beliefs may be granted, but on some trips, exemptions will not be allowed due to the unique aspects of the trip. Even if fully vaccinated, we may require participants to exercise certain precautions before attending the trip.

People who are at higher risk for severe illness from Covid-19 as defined by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), including people greater than 64 years old or people of any age with chronic lung disease, moderate to severe asthma, serious heart conditions, diabetes, liver or kidney disease, who are immunocompromised, or have severe obesity (BMI of 40 or higher) should carefully consider, in conjunction with their health care provider, whether to undertake a Type3Life trip at this time.

We request that you take steps to limit your exposure to SARS-CoV-2 for 14 days prior to and while traveling to your trip. This includes avoiding crowded indoor or outdoor spaces, practicing physical distancing, wearing a face mask when in public indoor spaces and on public transportation, frequent hand washing, and monitoring your health for symptoms of Covid-19. You are responsible for complying with any and all regulations related to Covid-19 during travel prior to the designated start date and time of your trip.

Please DO NOT travel to your Type3Life trip if you have Covid-19 symptoms (cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, or new loss of taste or smell), have in the past 14 days been in close contact with someone suspected or confirmed as having Covid-19, or you are confirmed or suspected as having Covid-19. If you arrive to your trip with these symptoms, you will be required to take a Covid-19 test, and if you fail this test you will not be allowed to depart with the group and no refund will be allowed.

During Your Trip: When you arrive at your Type3Life location, if you have symptoms of Covid-19, we will separate you from the group, seek medical advice, and a Covid-19 test. Participants who test positive for Covid-19 within 14 days of trip start will not be allowed to go on the trip.

The vaccination status of everyone on the trip will guide our practices in the field as will local rules and regulations and the requirements of any outfitters contracted to support Type3Life trips. As a result, conditions on each trip may vary slightly and will be briefed by the trip leader upon arrival to the trip meeting location. If all trip members are fully vaccinated (that is, there is no one with an allowed exemption) the trip will be conducted normally. However, there may be times where one or more trip members is not vaccinated (allowed exemption) then, physical distancing and face masks will be used and capacity of sleeping shelters will be adjusted for the unvaccinated person(s).

You will be expected to wash or sanitize your hands regularly and at other times as necessary. We will provide soap and/or hand sanitizer for your use. You will be expected to participate in and follow our hygiene practices throughout your trip which will be briefed at the start of every trip.

For these measures to be effective it will require commitment and diligence from you and all our participants and staff. Participants who, in our judgement, do not comply with these expectations may be removed from the trip.

We will monitor participants’ health and if someone develops symptoms of Covid-19, we will care for them in ways to limit close contact with others, seek medical advice, and follow our Covid-19 illness guidelines which may include evacuation and it’s possible that the whole trip may need to be evacuated. If you or someone on your trip, either during the trip or afterwards, is found to be Covid-19 positive we will cooperate with public health authorities with contact tracing as necessary.

If a participant is evacuated, the possibility of them rejoining their trip will be considered. Considerations include, but are not limited to, their health status, trip logistics, the amount of trip time missed, and other factors.

As is noted in the Participant Agreement (below), all costs associated with an evacuation from a trip are the responsibility of the participant. Participants will need to make their own travel arrangements to return home. Type3Life may be able to provide some assistance in finding lodging or arranging travel.

I have read and acknowledged the information regarding the risk of Covid-19 on my Type3Life trip.

Participant Agreement

(Including acknowledgment and assumption of risks and agreement of release and indemnity)

Please read this document carefully. It must be signed by all participants. In consideration of the services provided by Type3Life, LLC, hereafter referred to as Type3Life, I agree, to the following:

Activities and Risks: I understand that Type3Life trips primarily live, camp, and travel out of doors. Activities vary from trip to trip and can include, but are not limited to, camping, hiking, and backpacking through mountainous and other terrain; mountaineering and climbing on rock cliffs, steep snow, ice or glaciers; horse packing, skiing, or snowboarding; canoeing, kayaking, and rafting on whitewater and flatwater rivers or lakes; ocean sea kayaking and sailing; fishing, and caving. I further understand and acknowledge that the activities of the trips have risks, some of which are inherent. Inherent risks are those which cannot be eliminated without destroying the unique character of the activities. The same elements that contribute to the unique character of these activities and promote our curriculum objectives can cause loss or damage to equipment, accidental injury, illness, or, in extreme cases, permanent trauma, disability, or death. The following describes some, but not all, of the inherent risks of a Type3Life trip:

    • Type3Life activities may be physically and emotionally strenuous.
    • Type3Life trips usually occur in remote places. They occur on lands open to the public and exposed to the acts of persons not associated with Type3Life and who may pose risks. The remote locations may be many days from medical facilities. Communication and transportation are difficult and evacuations and medical care may be significantly delayed.
    • Physical activities include, but are not limited to, walking, hiking, backpacking, including crossing rivers on foot; climbing cliffs, steep slopes, and trees; paddling boats; repetitive lifting, and use of hand tools. At times participants will be in close physical proximity to one another or Trip Leaders and guides. Certain activities will require travel by vehicle, raft, canoe, kayak, sail, and other boats, horse, aircraft, train, skis, snowboards, on foot and by other means, over improved and unimproved roads, rugged trails, and off-trail terrain, including boulder fields, downed timber, rivers, rapids, high mountain passes, snow and ice, steep slopes, slippery or loose rocks, steep or crevassed glaciers, ocean tides, currents, waves, surf, and reefs. Travel risks include collision, falling, capsizing, becoming lost, and other risks usually associated with such travel, and environmental risks.
    • Environmental risks and hazards include, but are not limited to, flowing, deep and/or cold water; harmful insects, snakes, predators, and large animals; falling and rolling rock; lightning, avalanches, flash floods, falling timber; weather which may change to extreme conditions quickly or unexpectedly; and other forces of nature such as, but not limited to, earthquakes, landslides, tsunamis, and wildfire.
    • Meals are prepared over portable gas stoves and open fires. Water may require disinfection before use. Participants with food allergies or sensitivities may come in contact with offending food types.
    • Injuries may include, but are not limited to, burns, cuts, skin infections, sprains, strains, fractures frostbite, immersion foot, sunburn, drowning, and other injuries from slips, falls, lifting, and exposure to the environment. Illnesses may include but are not limited to, allergic reactions, hypothermia, high altitude illnesses, heatstroke, dehydration, communicable and other infectious diseases from insects, animals, or people such as diarrhea, flu-like or respiratory illness, and other debilitating or life-threatening conditions including COVID-19 and other diseases caused by coronaviruses.
    • Equipment may fail or malfunction.
    • Decisions made by the Trip Leader, other Type3Life staff (including volunteers and contracted partners), and participants will be based on a variety of perceptions and evaluations, which by their nature are imprecise and subject to errors in judgment. Misjudgments may pertain to, among other things, a participant’s capabilities, environment, terrain, water and weather conditions, natural hazards, travel routes, and medical conditions.
    • On most Type3Life trips, small groups of participants travel at times during the day, and possibly for several days and nights, without Trip Leaders or guides.
    • Type3Life is not responsible for participants, before and after their trip (per stated beginning and ending dates and times or for early departure due to evacuation, expulsion, or separation). On some trips, participants may have “free” time in a town or other locations out of the field while in transition from one field section to the next. Type3Life has no responsibility for participants during this free time and participants accept the risks that arise from this unsupervised free time. Type3Life staff may from time to time provide assistance or even accompany participants in these free-time activities, but in doing so, they are acting as private individuals, and Type3Life is not responsible for their conduct.
    • During the trip, between the stated start and end dates and times, except during free time as described above, participants are considered to be “participating” in their Type3Life trip. Participation includes, but is not limited to, involvement with activities, time spent at rest and while sleeping, and during formal activities or discussion sessions. However, Type3Life cannot continually monitor the behavior and activities of participants, and participants must accept responsibility for themselves and others and accept the risks, whether or not under the direct supervision of Type3Life staff.
    • Type3Life trips in foreign countries may be exposed to laws, legal systems, customs and behaviors, and to animals, diseases, and infections, not common to the United States. In addition, these trips may be subject to dangerous road travel, political unrest, riots, demonstrations, banditry, terrorism, and other criminal conduct, including drug-related activities.
    • Type3Life trips are instructional and communal in nature. Participants accept the risks of instructional and communal activities, which are intended to challenge participants to expand their skills and judgment.

I have read and understand the general information about Type3Life and its trips on the Type3Life website which includes, but is not limited to, Type3Life Admission Policies, Risk Management at Type3Life, the Type3Life Participant Handbook, the trip description, and other materials provided by Type3Life in print or electronic form describing or related to my trip. I agree to the terms and policies stated in all the above-mentioned materials. The staff of Type3Life has been available to more fully explain the nature and physical demands of the activities in which I will be engaged, and certain inherent and other risks of my Type3Life activity.

Acknowledgment and Assumption of Inherent and Other Risks: I understand and acknowledge that the description above (“Activities and Risks”) of the inherent risks of Type3Lifes’ trips is not complete and that other, including unknown or unanticipated, risks, inherent and otherwise, may result in injury, illness, death, or property loss. I acknowledge that my participation in this Type3Life trip is purely voluntary, and I wish to participate in spite of and with knowledge of the inherent and other risks involved. I acknowledge and assume the inherent risks described above and all other inherent risks of my Type3Life trip as well as any other risks of enrolling, participating in, or being present on a Type3Life trip or during free time. For activities that occur on National Park Service land, National Forest lands, Bureau of Land Management lands, any other state or federal land, or on and private property and to the extent required by law, the above acknowledgment and assumption of risks is limited to assuming only the inherent risks.

Agreement of Release and Indemnity: I hereby forever release, hold harmless, and agree not to sue Type3Life, its officers, trustees, agents, and staff including employees, volunteers, interns, and contractors (“Released Parties”), with respect to any and all claims of loss or damage to person or property by reason of injury, disability, death, or otherwise, suffered by me, arising in whole or part from my enrollment, participation, or presence on a Type3Life trip. I agree further to indemnify (“indemnify” meaning to defend, and to pay or reimburse, including costs and attorney’s fees) Released Parties against any claim by a member of my family, a rescuer, another participant, or any other person, arising in whole or part from an injury or other loss suffered by or caused by me, in connection with my enrollment, participation in, or presence on a Type3Life trip. This release and indemnity includes any and all claims arising before or after the trip or during any free time. These agreements of Release and Indemnity are intended to be enforced to the fullest extent permitted by law and include claims of negligence, but not claims of gross negligence or intentionally wrongful conduct. Nothing in this Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks & Release and Indemnity Agreement shall be interpreted as me releasing Type3Life from liability for injuries, damage, death, or other loss to me or others that may occur within the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, National Forest lands, Bureau of Land Management lands, any other state or federal land, or on and private property and is caused by Type3Lifes’ negligence, gross negligence, recklessness, or intentional conduct, including but not limited to any negligence with respect to Type3Lifes’ judgments and decisions, or Type3Lifes’ failure to take reasonable precautions to ensure it provides me with safe and defect-free equipment.

Other Provisions: I have verified with my physician and/or other medical professionals, or otherwise satisfied Type3Life, that I have no past or current physical or psychological condition that might affect my participation on the trip, other than as described on the health form submitted to Type3Life. I understand my health form will be viewed, as necessary, by Type3Life admission staff, Trip Leaders, guides, and certain other staff. I am able to participate without causing harm to myself or to others. The medical information given to Type3Life is accurate and all pertinent medical conditions have been disclosed. Prior to the commencement of the trip, Type3Life will be informed of any medical condition that has not been previously disclosed or any changes in medical conditions or medications. I understand that Type3Lifes’ admission of me to the trip is not intended as a representation that Type3Life staff will be able to manage successfully a medical event or emergency related to a disclosed, or undisclosed, medical condition. The responsibility for determining a participant’s health status is not Type3Lifes’ but, rather, the participant’s, guided by family and the participant’s health care provider. However, Type3Life reserves the right to refuse admission or remove a participant from a trip for any reason it deems is in the best interests of the participant or the company.

Type3Life is authorized to obtain or provide emergency evacuation, hospitalization, surgical, or other medical care for me. I understand that situations may arise in which third-party medical care is not available and which require Type3Life staff to provide first aid and possibly more advanced procedures, employing wilderness first responder training. Such care will be provided under the guidance of the Type3Life medical advisor by way of Type3Lifes’ written medical protocols. Any third-party medical care provider is authorized to exchange pertinent medical information with Type3Life. Costs associated with medical services, including evacuation, shall be borne by me.

I understand that the use of alcohol, drugs, and non-prescription medications is prohibited on all Type3Life trips. These substances could negatively impact individual and team performance on the trip and can create significant safety and health risks for all team members. Discovery of the possession or use of alcohol or non-prescription medication in any instance is cause for immediate dismissal from the trip and return home at the participant’s expense.

I understand that Type3Life trips are a no-tech space and an opportunity to take a break from everyday life and stressors to connect with self and others in an intentional and meaningful way. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that we hope you’ll want to be present for. I agree to leave any technology (e.g. phones and computers) at home or if I need to bring them they will be left with the Trip Leaders or at the lodging but not brought into the backcountry.

I understand that Type3Life will gather participant feedback for program improvement, including routine end-of-trip program evaluations and occasional pre-course and post-course measures related to knowledge about the Type3Life curriculum, with the expectation that sources remain anonymous in any publication of these findings.

Type3Life may from time to time use the services of private contractors for certain tasks, including, for example, transportation to and from trip areas or in the event of an evacuation from the field. Type3Life is not responsible for the acts or omissions of such contractors.

I agree to be responsible for any damage I may cause to Type3Life facilities or gear. Type3Life is not responsible for loss, theft or damage to a participant’s personal belongings stored at Type3Life facilities.

If during my Type3Life trip I voluntarily withdraw or am expelled, Type3Life reserves the right to notify an emergency contact person.

Any dispute between me and Type3Life will be governed by the substantive laws (not including the laws which might apply the laws of another jurisdiction) of the State of Colorado and I consent to jurisdiction in Colorado. Any mediation or suit shall occur or be filed only in the State of Colorado.

By signing up for a Type3Life trip or program, I agree to allow Type3Life to use participants’ names, photos, videos, quotes, and other imagery in promotional material (print of digital), the website, in published videos, and press releases.

If any part of this agreement is found by a court or other appropriate authority to be invalid, the remainder of the agreement nevertheless will be in full force and effect.

The participant has read this page and the previous 3 pages of this document and understand and voluntarily agree to its terms, which shall be binding upon them, their heirs, estate, executors, and administrators. Any modifications of this agreement must be approved by Type3Life in writing.
