Type3Adventures

Colorado Hut-to-hut Mountain Biking

Adventure through western Colorado by bike on this 3-night, 4-day, hut-to-hut adventure. The Uncompahgre Plateau has some of the state’s best trails for multi-day exploring.

You’ll navigate pristine single track through a pinion and juniper desert before climbing into a huge forest of ponderosa pines and aspens leading you to your first destination.

The last night of the trip we’ll end at Gateway Resort, an oasis in the desert where we’ll relax in style with a good meal, and a little time by the pool.

Colorado Mountain Biking Itinerary

We meet in Fruita, CO between 8-9pm. This will be our basecamp for the evening. We’ll have local accommodations arranged, grab dinner as a group, and prep for the next few days.

We’ll depart as a group and head to our trail head. From there we’ll set off across the desert riding rad single and double track in pinion and juniper forests.

We’ll head out early and ride north on the Uncompahgre Plateau and onto some more technical trails with some gripping down and breath taking up hills. By the end of the day we’ll be nestled in the aspens with breathtaking views of the La Sal Mountains to the west.

Time to descend. You’ll start the day at 9100 ft and end at 5300 ft, so we’ll have plenty of pedal-free miles through rewarding red-rock canyons.

You’ll start early on your last riding day as we head to the finish at stunning Gateway Resort. By now, you’ll be good and ready for a challenging climb. But don’t worry, a warm shower, cold pool, and a hearty meal awaits!

After breakfast at the resort we’ll head home. There will be an opportunity for a short ride on the way back toward Denver, or you can choose to take off and explore Western Colorado on your own.

All of our trips are designed to push participants physically and mentally. That being said, for this adventure, we want intermediate or better mountain bike riders that are comfortable on the trail. Not all riders move at the same pace, and this is NOT a race. This is a group event and we are committed to getting the whole group to the destination as a team.

This is an epic 4 day ride through the desert and high-alpine of western Colorado. We’ll enjoy winding singletrack, ATV trails, red-rock canyons, aspen forests, and views of the La Sal Mountains rarely seen.

Each night we’ll stay at a backcountry hut where dinner and breakfasts will be prepared.

Each day we’ll head off onto the trail and leave all our gear with out SAG driver to meet us at the next hut. You’ll just have to carry your lunch and riding gear.

The last day we’ll arrive at the Gateway Resort for some much needed R&R before we head home and back to the front country life we left behind earlier in the week. Refresh your mind and soul on this amazing adventure in the desert.

Late summer in the desert can be amazing. The Indian summers out on the Western Slope range from the mid 40s through the 90s. It’s a stunning time to be out on the Plateau but come prepared for some heat and potential for storms that could bring rain.

This trip is fully stocked with everything you need other than your mountain bike and riding gear. The huts are stocked with water, food, bunks and sleeping bags, and bike maintenance tools.

Mountain Biking: Mountain bike, helmet, chamois, non-cotton layers, rain jacket, sun glasses, non-cotton socks, mountain bike shoes, and trail repair kit, headlamp

Clothes for Travel and Town: Comfortable clothes for at night are really your preference, we can leave a bag at camp. Our recommendation is to bring puffy down jacket, pants, camp shoes, non-cotton base layers

Personal Toiletries: We recommend eco-safe products including soap, bug spray, sunscreen, toothpaste and toothbrush.

You will be responsible for getting yourself to and from Fruita, CO. Once with the group all costs for the trip including food, water, and shuttles will be covered by T3L.

Our staff are certified in wilderness medicine and are trained to T3L’s high standards in risk management and group facilitation. Additionally, we partner with a local service for this adventure to shuttle us to the trail start, transport our personal items from hut to hut for us, stock our huts, and shuttle our vehicles to Gateway so they are ready for us when we arrive

We believe that being outdoors is a great way to manage your own mental well-being during the pandemic. As with everything we do, risk management is also a cornerstone at Type3Life. While we know everyone is tired of dealing with this, we do expect everyone to follow our COVID-19 guidelines while on our trips to help manage the safety of the group.

Local areas, guides, and activities may require different considerations for minimizing our risk for COVID-19 exposure and we appreciate you working with us during your trip to help keep everyone involved safe. At the very least hand washing and good hygiene is necessary in any backcountry trip. Additionally, depending on the trip, we may require masks during various parts of our trip as well as proof of vaccinations or PCR tests for travel. We will communicate specifics with you upon signing up, but if you have any questions, please reach out to us.

We recommend all of our participants look into purchasing their own personal travel insurance prior to the trip to cover them in case of unforeseen travel or medical issues that may arise.

During the primary backcountry portion, T3L will have a satellite phone for emergency situations. In the unlikely event of an emergency, T3L will contact your emergency contacts. Personal cell phones or other electronic devices will most-likely not work once we depart the front country.

Our trips are all about getting out into the most incredible places on earth with a group of guys looking to push themselves outside of their normal comfort zone. What separates a T3L trip is our emphasis on experiencing the most amazing places in nature, balanced with our dedication to building a community of guys who have your back. We do have intentional moments of reflection built into each trip, but we focus on letting the people and the place come together organically for a unique experience each day.

All of our trips are designed to push participants physically and mentally. That being said, every man can benefit from our trips, not just the super fit. If this experience sounds cool, but you’re not sure if you’ll be able to do it, we recommend reaching out to us and we can talk about it. If we don’t think you can safely participate, we’ll find the right trip for you.

Each T3L trip is unique, but the commonality between each group is the community of guys that you leave with. With that, we just ask that you come ready to be a part of the group and treat your fellow members with respect.

From a physical standpoint, be sure to review the itinerary and make sure you are physically and mentally up for it. We have trips of varying difficulty levels and can work with you to find you the best option. Again, if you have any questions about your ability to participate in a specific trip, we recommend chatting with the T3L team.

Finally, we all love beer. In fact, the idea for this company may have come after one too many beers on a river trip. That being said, we believe that the experience we’re putting on is incredible enough that we do not need drugs or alcohol to dilute them. It’s about being the real you out in the real world. We do require you to leave any non-prescription drugs and alcohol at home.

Type3Life trips are not intended to be wilderness therapy. Our intention is to build community, create bonds, and explore kick-ass places.

If you need therapeutic resources please reach out and we will do our best to point you in the right direction
