Our Definition of Types of Fun
Type1Fun: This is the type of fun that’s easy and enjoyable. There’s no hardship, its just pure enjoyment. Going to a ball game, skiing a powder day at the resort, climbing a mountain on a blue-bird day, these are Type1Fun.
Type2Fun: When your adventures get tough this is Type2Fun. There’s sweat, fear, and maybe a bit of cursing involved. It takes a lot of effort to pull off the day with high spirits. This is mountaineering in a blizzard, pushing an extra 10 miles after dark just because the schedule says you need to, or carrying a buddies pack because he’s too tired to make it over the next pass with it on his own back.
Type3Fun: When the going gets tough, intended plans go out the window, and it’s down to pure grit. Type3Fun is more than bad weather and long days. There’s usually a component of fear, the unknown, and a feeling of what the hell did I get myself into. Type3Fun leads to growth and introspection though, it makes you think about your actions, how you overcome, how you plan, and how you react to situations in front of you. After you’re out the other side, you can usually look back and say, danm, I made it, we made it. It tends to require support from community (adventure buddies, family, friends, co-workers) and bonds those communities tightly. Type3Fun is the stories you tell for decades and come with a lesson of some sort in the end.
At Type3Life our goal is to enable the growth that Type3Fun puts into motion, but through a curriculum and program designed around the slightly less dangerous Type2Fun adventure. We’ll push you, it will be hard, but there will be laughs, bonding, memories, and maybe a touch of self doubt, but these trips are not intended to tip into the unknown of Type3Fun.
