Colorado Mountain Biking Itinerary

Everyone will plan on arriving to Rabbit Ears Pass between 4-6pm. This will be our basecamp for the evening. After running a quick shuttle of everyone’s personal vehicles into town and will then head back to our campsite for dinner.

We’ll begin our mountain biking from camp and will head north along the continental divide. Today is about enjoying the views of the high alpine meadows and the incredible sections of backcountry single-track. We’ll end at our new basecamp atop Buffalo Pass.

From our new Buffalo Pass basecamp, we’ll explore some of the best trails Colorado has to offer. The options here offer a wide variety for a mixed level of skills, and the trails are sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. We’ll end the day back at camp on Buffalo Pass.

Saving the best for last. We’ll descend from camp down T3L staff’s favorite trail in Colorado and will end in Steamboat. Before heading home, we’ll enjoy a lunch together and celebrate an amazing trip.

All of our trips are designed to push participants physically and mentally. That being said, for this adventure, we want intermediate or better mountain bike riders that are comfortable on the trail. Not all riders move at the same pace, and this is NOT a race. This is a group event and we are committed to getting the whole group to the destination as a team.

Steamboat Springs has often been known as Ski Town USA but boasts a vast and extensive network of world-class trails for all users. Located 160 miles from Denver, Steamboat is nestled into the Yampa Valley on the western side of the Continental Divide.

The group will meet at Camp 1 near the summit of Rabbit Ears Pass and the Type3Life team will lead a shuttle to move participant vehicles to Steamboat for a convenient departure at the end of the trip. Upon return of the shuttle run to Camp 1 we’ll hold a welcome dinner.

Day 1 will consist of cross-country riding to traverse the Continental Divide Trail North to the summit of Buffalo Pass where the support team will have Camp 2 set up and waiting for you. On Day 2 we’ll explore the moderate and expert trails near the summit of Buff Pass and return to Camp 2. On Day 3,  we’ll descend into a steamboat on fast and technical trails to close out the trip right. The trip ends with a group lunch and departure from Steamboat in the early afternoon.

The mountains between Rabbit Ears pass and Buffalo Pass offer a beautiful, high-alpine environment that is capable of throwing all of the elements at us. We may see high temperatures, but also afternoon rain storms and sudden drops in temperature. It’s important to bring the proper gear to prepare for anything, so check out the packing lists below for recommendations. If you have any questions about what to bring, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

The mountain biking will consist of 16-25 miles rides per day at elevations of just over 10,000 feet. While traversing between our two campsites, we will be entering into a true backcountry experience. We will have satellite communication as well as trained guides to help in case of an emergency, but the best way to manage risk in these types of environments falls on everyone individually to make good choices as a team.

Camping Gear: Camping Gear: T3L will provide all food and water for the trip. If you need camping gear, we can arrange this for you.

Mountain Biking: Mountain bike, helmet, chamois, non-cotton layers, rain jacket, sun glasses, non-cotton socks, mountain bike shoes, and trail repair kit

Camping: Tent, sleeping pad, sleeping bag, headlamp, camp chair

Clothes for Travel and Town: Comfortable clothes for at night are really your preference, we can leave a bag at camp. Our recommendation is to bring puffy down jacket, pants, camp shoes, non-cotton base layers

Personal Toiletries: We recommend eco-safe products including soap, bug spray, sunscreen, toothpaste and toothbrush.

You will be responsible for getting yourself to and from Steamboat, CO. Once with the group all costs for the trip including food, water and car shuttles will be covered by T3L.

Our staff are certified in wilderness medicine and are trained to T3L’s high standards in risk management and group facilitation. Additionally, we will recruit local guides to bring their local knowledge, gear, and expertise for more intensive trip activities. activities.

We believe that being outdoors is a great way to manage your own mental well-being during the pandemic. As with everything we do, risk management is also a cornerstone at Type3Life. While we know everyone is tired of dealing with this, we do expect everyone to follow our COVID-19 guidelines while on our trips to help manage the safety of the group.

Local areas, guides, and activities may require different considerations for minimizing our risk for COVID-19 exposure and we appreciate you working with us during your trip to help keep everyone involved safe. At the very least hand washing and good hygiene is necessary in any backcountry trip. Additionally, depending on the trip, we may require masks during various parts of our trip as well as proof of vaccinations or PCR tests for travel. We will communicate specifics with you upon signing up, but if you have any questions, please reach out to us.

We recommend all of our participants look into purchasing their own personal travel insurance prior to the trip to cover them in case of unforeseen travel or medical issues that may arise.

During the primary backcountry portion, T3L will have a satellite phone for emergency situations. In the unlikely event of an emergency, T3L will contact your emergency contacts. Personal cell phones or other electronic devices are not allowed once we depart the front country.

Our trips are all about getting out into the most incredible places on earth with a group of guys looking to push themselves outside of their normal comfort zone. What separates a T3L trip is our emphasis on individual personal growth balanced with our dedication to building a community of guys who have your back. We do have intentional moments of reflection built into each trip, but we focus on letting the people and the place come together organically for a unique experience each day.

Each T3L trip is unique, but the commonality between each group is the community of guys that you leave with. With that, we just ask that you come ready to be a part of the group and treat your fellow members with respect.

If you have any questions about your ability to participate in this trip, we recommend chatting with the T3L team.

Finally, we all love beer. In fact, the idea for this company may have come after one too many beers on a river trip. That being said, the focus of this trip is to push ourselves, have fun, and build community. We will have post-ride refreshments available, but encourage all of our participants to embrace the opportunity to be fully present. It’s about being the real you out in the real world. We do require you to leave any non-prescription drugs at home.

Type3Life trips are not intended to be wilderness therapy. Our intention is to build community and create bonds that help men connect with one another.

If you need therapeutic resources please reach out and we will do our best to point you in the right direction.
